Koss HB79 Stereophone System Wireless Review

I have owned this product for 2 years. I have replace it under warranty twice. The one I have now stopped working also, due to a loose or bad wire for the power to the unit. A lifetime warranty means nothing if you have to keep sending it in at YOUR expense. This has been a repeated problem with each unit that I have owned. They simply stop working. I recommend the Sennheiser wireless head phones that I purchased a year ago that operate on a better wireless system. You can buy them from Amazon. Good luck!

Plantronics DSP-500 Digitally-Enhanced USB Gaming/Multimedia Stereo Headset and Software Review

Plantronics DSP-500 Digitally-Enhanced USB Gaming/Multimedia Stereo Headset and Software
Average Reviews:

3.21.04: First off, I will say that I am an on-line gamer and prefer the best when it comes to my electronics. I purchased the Plantronics 500 headset in March of 2003 and I'm now looking for a replacement. About a month ago, the audio from the left ear of the unit started to go in and out. I decided to dismantle the unit tonight after the left side finally quit on me and I found two places where the very thin wiring has almost completely frayed apart in the actual housing of the unit and where it connects into the headset itself. The sound and microphone on these is VERY good but I am disappointed that just after a year of pampering that they have given out (sorry, only a one year warranty on non-commercial items from Plantronics - which these are).

I also had a few small complaints about the inability to switch back to my computer speakers easily, or that the cord can really get in the way at times due to its long length. This may be good for some applications but the cord will stretch for a good 5 feet, alot more than I needed. They are very comfortable though and even after all night gaming, they still felt decent, unless I had my glasses on and then they can really start to hurt after an hour or two.In conclusion, if they would have lasted me at least another year, I would have rated them 4 or maybe even 5 stars but after only one year of use, I have them falling to 3 stars.

10.25.04:Well, I am back to buy another DSP-500 headset.I went through two different sets since I last purchased these and they do not compare to the sound quality of the DSP-500.I would have to give these an excellent rating when it comes to the sound/microphone/ease of use/etc... they just need to work on how long they last but I have been told by friends that I use them ALOT so an average user will easily get more time out of them than I did.A year for me was pretty good from what my friends say... so I am revising my review to give them "5 stars".This is an excellent headset and easily outperforms others in the $50 range.

11.21.05:Well, it's been over a year now and my second set is doing GREAT!I think I've learned to be a little more careful with my headsets now (or maybe playing BF2 has me more relaxed - hehe).I even have a couple of friends using this headset and they love it too.I tried another "new" set that came out at BB a couple of months back and found them nowhere near the quality of these.I still recommend these, especially since they are still selling for less than 50 bucks.Amazing... the best product I have ever purchased off Amazon.

Monster 123872-00 iSplitter Shared Headphone Adapter Review

Monster 123872-00 iSplitter Shared Headphone Adapter
Average Reviews:

I acquired one of these to share music with my companion on a recent trip, and it worked perfectly. The Monster splitter connects to the MP3 player's regular headphone jack, and two male headphone connectors go on the split ends. It fits any standard headphone jack and doesn't affect sound quality at all -- this still depends on how good the MP3 player and the headphones are. What I particularly like about the Monster is that it has independent volume controls for each headphone, a little dial set flush to each side of the splitter. Otherwise, we'd have a problem: since I like my music louder than my partner, splitting the sound and not the relationship is the way to go!

Panasonic RP-HS11 Water-Resistant Lightweight Sport-Clip Headphones with Washable Pads (White) Review

Panasonic RP-HS11 Water-Resistant Lightweight Sport-Clip Headphones with Washable Pads
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First thing: My ears despise earbuds. Whenever I've tried any pair of earbuds, they immediately fall out once I start walking. My cheap pair of clip headphones worked much better, but whenever I ran, the foam earpads would start coming apart. Not to mention that foam gets quite hot when you're running...

Seeing that this product has removable rubber earpads, I was naturally intrigued. Once I tried them running, I was hooked. They stay on my ears! You do have to twist the clip toward the back of your ear to get it to fit right, but once they're there, they're not coming off. What's also great is that they're superlight, and come with a small clip on the cord so you won't be hitting any extra cord length as you work out. The cord length overall works well for me, since I wear my mp3 player on my upper arm. I can't really speak for the toughness of this product, since I keep my mp3 player and these headphones in a small bag so it doesn't get tangled up with everything else I have in my gym bag.

The sound is pretty adequate, not anything spectacular. But hey, if you wanted really great sound, you'd probably either spend a lot more money or not listen to music while working out. (The gym is not a good place to truly appreciate the nuances in music, really...) I'm just happy that I've found something light, hardy, and secure!

Average Reviews:

The first reason I don't like this item is based on a lack of information. The ad says "compatible with" and lists a number of radios with no specifics.Unfortunately, it is not compatible with all the listed radios, and a little information would have helped, since the radios I bought at the same time were not compatible. Then on arrival, there were no instructions on assembly or installation included with the item. While not rocket science, it might have helped to at least have an illustration of how it should be assembled and installed.
After some use, I've found that the velcro on the PTT switch is not long enough to go around a handlebar grip on a motorcycle. It also fell off the user's finger and ended up against the hot exhaust, and burned up.What a piece of junk!I wouldn't give two cents for this product, if I had it to do over again!

Ultrasone Edition 8 S-Logic Plus Natural Surround Sound Professional Headphone
Average Reviews:

These headphones have not been broken in, but right out of the box, they sound wonderful. They seem to have a very balanced clear sound that is fine on the top end.I live the bass response. They are comfortable and classy looking.

However, at $1,499.00, they qualify for people that feel they have to have the "best" of everything.I have many top end headphones from many manufacturors. These headphones "sound wise" hold up very well, but it is very difficult to justify the expense.

I have been listening to them on a very reasonably priced hybrid solid state power sourced, tube powered headphone ampplifier. The sound is really very nice.

The packaging is really quite skimpy. The headphones come with a very pedestrian cable in a white cardboard box with a glossy looking cardboard sleeve over it. At this expense, they could have put it in a nice case.

Style wise, they are much cooler looking than the edition 9.They sound is a little less bass centered. It is more balanced sounding that the Edition 9 which is also a very nice headphone.

I'm a gamer. I depend on this headset for every game I play, on all of my desktops. It has a pretty sturdy design, a good quality microphone, and GREAT speakers. The headset is super comfortable, even though I have a big head. It works on Vista 32 and 64 bit computers, and works with all the games i've tried including Teamfortress 2, World of Warcraft, Heroes of Newerth (beta), just to name a few. BUY THIS HEADSET it wont let you down. I can feel the quality of the headset every time i pick it up.

Only complaint: the microphone is a *little* bit weak (I have to boost the microphone input in most of my games), but is still good for the price!

Motorola HX1 Bluetooth Headset Crystal Talk noise cancelation Review

06:32, Posted by Kristal E Young, No Comment

Motorola HX1 Bluetooth Headset Crystal Talk noise cancelation
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a cyclist, I've been eager for *serious* development in Bluetooth headsets, but frustrated by just about everything I've tried. Either the headset was unstable in its ear-placement (always threatening to fall out in anything other than a vertical, semi-sedentary position) highly susceptible to external noises, or (usually) both at once. In addition, SO many headsets don't allow voice-dialing, which is rather weird given all the other touted benefits of wearing the things. Up to now, Motorola was hardly better at this than the other usual suspects, but with the HX-1, in my opinion, they've shot to the head of the class.

There are the practical-but-nice touches, starting with an on/off switch that's a *real* switch, and totally unambiguous in its operation and status. Volume control is via a rocker switch with up/down actuation easily discernible by touch. The Send/End and stealth buttons are both easy to actuate, but (at least as far as I'm concerned) offer just enough physical resistance to not be activated by accident.

In-ear fit is super-secure (finally!). Motorola offers four interchangeable earpieces, two each of two designs, which will likely cover most users' fitting issues; I've found that the "earspring" for the right ear works best for me. Comfort is very good, but (as I've stressed in other reviews regarding headphones and earbuds) the care with which you adjust the fit of the device will figure largely in how comfortable-or not-the headset will feel, both short- and long-term. (I read a short user-review of the HX-1 claiming the unit was all but unwearable in terms of comfort...after trying it on for a whole ten minutes. Not quite what I'd term "in-depth.")

Now, for the juicy bits: Cutting to the chase, the stealth (bone-conduction) mode absolutely, positively works. Cycling along at a decent clip, I've had headsets become totally useless without having to slow to a crawl and head for the curb, my words, even at a near-shout, being totally unintelligible to the other party. With the HX-1, I simply hit the stealth button, wait for the voice confirmation ("Stealth mode on"...wow, now all that's missing is a rocket-assist and retractable machine-guns;-), and the *only* sound heard on the other end is that of my voice, thanks to bone-conduction technology. True, my voice isn't as natural-sounding as through the normal CrystalTalk microphone, but highly intelligible. (One person commented that I sounded a bit like Stephen Hawking; although I'm not much of a gamer anymore, if you've ever played Counterstrike, you'll get an idea of the sound, but it's a bit better than that.)

Speaking of CrystalTalk: The default mode on the HX-1 is with the CrystalTalk mic activated. The reason is simple: under most circumstances, CT works just fine, even in relatively noisy environments. (On the bike, I've tested the headset in CT mode up to 15mph with no problems.) Stealth mode, then, is for those times when noise conditions get particularly hairy. You may end up not using stealth mode all that much, but when you need it, it's just a click away.

Other details: Battery life appears to be as advertised. The packaging of the headset is a bit of overkill (really, a cast-aluminum case? I think they need to learn a bit from Apple on this...it's about the candy inside, guys, NOT the wrapper!); Bluetooth Bonus: since the HX-1 can be paired with up to two devices at once, I also paired it with my BT-equipped PowerBook G4, which now allows me to use Skype both hands-free and untethered (as well as with a degree or privacy).

Conclusion: I think this is the best BT headset around at the moment. Yes, at its current selling price, it ought to be. Casual users of headsets probably won't be too interested in popping for this, but for those who spend a lot of time wearing a headset, *especially* while operating a vehicle, do yourself a big favor and check the HX-1 out. From a safety standpoint alone, it's absolutely worth it.

This is a great usb headset.I've tried them all out and this is by far the most comfortable and best sound. And there's currently a [...] on it to boot.I use it as a phone for Skype calling, not for music, so I only wanted one earpad. What would have made it a 5 star review is if they had mentioned in the literature or on the website that it's essential to download and install the firmware update. Once I did that it worked without flaw on both my Mac and PC.They also have a bluetooth version which I tried, but returned because It entailed too much fiddling on each call. But looking back, I'll bet that might have been fixed with the firmware update as well.

Skullcandy SC-HESH Headphones Review

Skullcandy SC-HESH Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For a while I had been wanting to retire my apple earbuds and, under the recommendation of many friends, I went to skullcandy. Not only do their products look cool, but they are also great quality. For me it was between the HESH and the Skullcandy SCS-SCM Skullcrusher Subwoofer Multimedia Headphones Black. Lucky for me, I had friends with each. First I tried the Skullcrushers. While the bass was excellent when the subwoofers were on (you turn it on by a switch attached to the cord), it was too overpowering and I couldn't hear the treble. For me, being a guitar player, it was heart-breaking to be able to barely hear the guitar parts and solos to my favorite songs. But, when the subwoofers were off, the bass was almost nonexistent and the cans adopted a tinny noise.
I went to my next friend and he let me try on the HESH. The first thing I noticed was the comfort of the leather pads and headband and the fact that I couldn't hear a word of what he was saying. But that didn't matter, because when I turned on a song, I was treated with a nirvana of screeching guitar distortion, booming bass, thundering drums and mellow acoustics. For the remainder of a song, my friend was inaudible under the music. Not only do they have excellent quality, but they go LOUD. The HESH also look cool with sick silver skulls on the cups and band. The moment I got home I ordered a pair of the black ones.
If I had one complaint it was that the cups could not rotate 90 degrees, but then again, headphones aren't supposed to be heard by a party, thats what speakers are for.
All in all, these headphones are pretty sick. If your a bass afficianado or don't care about your treble, by all means, go with the Skullcandy SCS-SCM Skullcrusher Subwoofer Multimedia Headphones Black, but realize that you won't be able to hear Clapton playing his heart out in Sunshine of Your Love. Alternatively, if you can't stand the over-the-ear style of the HESH, go with the Skullcandy SC-SBB3.5 Smokin' Earbud Black.

Hopefully I helped you make your decision.

Sennheiser PMX80 ECO In-Ear Eco Friendly Sport Headphone (Grey/orange) Review

Sennheiser PMX80 ECO In-Ear Eco Friendly Sport Headphone
Average Reviews:

This is a newer model of the PMX80 which has 10 reviews elsewhere on this site.Based on those reviews and reviews of several similarly priced items, all of which were extremely helpful, and the fact that this was a newer model, I selected this item.I am very pleased with it. I have tried several different kinds of headphones during cardio and other workouts all of which were dismal failures. They fell out on their own, ormy hands would catch the cord and yank them out, or the seal was so weak that I had to pump the iPod volume up to max to get the music to a level that I could hear during a workout. These headphones suffer none of those problems. They stay in during both cardio and weightlifting workouts. They seal very well and block out other noise decently so that I could have a more appropriate volume.

If you are interested in sport headphones, you may be also interested in exercise clothing that facilitates wearing them and I recommend the Scottevest Tshirts which have a zippered shoulder pocket that held my iPod and enabled me to keep the headphones cord short so that it did not get caught by any arm movements. These two items in combination eliminated a number of workout-related nuisances and boosted my enjoyment considerably.

Recently bought a Blueparrott 250XT and was worried about the battery, as others have had problems with that. I charged mine up the full time (and more) as they say in the instructions. I initially had problems, but they were my fault.I didnt read the instructions completely and when the light flashed red, I thought it was a battery problem. As it turns out, it indicated that it had disconnected from my cellphone's bluetooth system. I reconnected and it worked really well. My cell has disconnected a few times, but lately, it works well, I'm at a loss when I dont have it on.The noise cancelling works really well. The amplication on the earphone is great and compensates for my age-related hearing loss. A really great unit, feels good wearing it, not sure I'd wear it in the food store, but is it any worse than any of the earpiece units you see being used now?If I lost it would I buy another one?Yes...100% yes.

Sony 8 GB Slim Noise-Canceling Video MP3 Player (Black) Review

Sony 8 GB Slim Noise-Canceling Video MP3 Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've avoided iPod brand MP3 players for number of reasons I won't go into here.My first large capacity player was a Creative 20GB model that had a replaceable battery (I carried a spare battery for long air trips), followed by the 30GB Zen Vision M.I'd used both with Shure E2c noise isolating earbuds. But I'd been hankering for something lighter, and with faster startup.

Enter the Walkman NWZ-S738F.

To say that I'm pleased is an understatement.Though screen is a bit small for video, you can do it if you need to.But coming from 30GB of storage to 8GB means that I'm a little more selective on content and will stick to music.

The noise cancelling function does not work with headphones other than the MDR-NC020.Some have groused about that, but if you look at the plug for those you'll see 5 contacts (the tip, three rings, and a contact on a tab). There has to be more communication between earbuds and the player. But you can still use standard 1/8" stereo earbuds or headphones in the non-NC mode, though you'll probably want to reset the EQ -- the supplied earbuds seem very well matched to the player's output.

The earbuds come with three different size ear canal sleeves so most folks should find a fit.

Like:

-- Great battery life. The claimed 40 hours is probably pretty illusory (I always knock 1/3 off any battery life claims), but I can get 3 days of office use on a single charge with no problem.

-- Noise cancelling.I've done the office and Metro tests and I'm impressed. You can adjust the level, and turn NC on and off with a dedicated slider switch on the bottom.(I have yet to do the airplane test.)

-- EQ.There are presets, and you can also custom edit your own.The selected EQ shows on the lowest line of the display, along with NC and battery state.

-- Controls. The controls are logical and easy to use.You have a dedicated rocker type volume control on the upper right side that is easy to find without looking. The slider "Hold" switch locks your controls.

-- Use as a stand-alone noise cancelling device. There is a clever airplane adapter (fits single or double jacks) that can be connected by a short cable to the interface jack on the bottom of the player. The supplied earbuds remain in their normal jack, and you use the player circuits to cancel noise.

-- Optional CKM-NWS630 Silicone Case.Nice fit.Included clear screen protector.Little tab on bottom for lanyard attachment (for secure environments -- if out in public, don't have your player dangling from your neck like ripe fruit).

-- Quick startup and navigation.

Don't Like:

-- The Media Manager software.Requires Windows Media Player 11.It did not work on my XP desktop computer, but I really didn't try to hunt down the problem.Anything that relies on WMP is crippled from the outset, and it is easy to transfer the files back and forth using Windows Explorer or any other file transfer utility.I rip CDs using Express Rip anyway, and use Zortam ID3 Editor for the tag info.

-- Capacity.I could use a little more capacity, and there is supposed to be an NWZ-S739F (16GB) waiting in the wings in Sonyland...

-- Lack of direct charging. You need to tether to your computer via the USB port unless you buy an optional charger (caution for non-computer-accompanied trips). However, if you are a Gomadic user, there is an adapter tip for their charger system.

Conclusion:Nice size.A range of audio controls that produce great sound.Easy to learn and intuitive controls.Noise canceling that does not inject too much of its own noise.Great battery life.

Sony NW-S703F Noise-Canceling Walkman MP3 Player (Pink) Review

Sony NW-S703F Noise-Canceling Walkman MP3 Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Sony NW-S703F (Sony should really rethink naming their mp3 players)is a beautiful piece of hardware that boasts innovative noise canceling properties, great sound, and good looks. I was in the market for a flash player for exercising and I came upon a good deal on this particular player and I have been more than pleased with it. Here are some of the pros and cons of this flashy little device:

Pros
+ Innovative noise canceling function that really works! (note: noise activating function is only activated when using the proprietary headphones)
+ Great design and small size. The player resembles a futuristic looking lighter or a metallic pocketknife, its really eye catching and unique.
+ Excellent sound quality
+ Very intuitive to use
+ Cool graphical user interface and menu design, everything about this player looks modern and cool
+ Cool intelligent shuffle features, including Time Machine Shuffle (shuffles through songs from a particular year), My Favorite Shuffle, and Sports Shuffle (shuffles songs for a particular time span, say a ten minute jog. Sports shuffle also features a cool little animated jogging figure that even stops to drink water when you pause your music)
+ Jacket search - you can search through your music library by the album cover and it even plays a sample of the albums first song
+ Impressive battery life

Cons
- Sonic Stage software is not the most user friendly software to work with, but don't let the software prevent you from looking into this player, its not that bad.
- Proprietary; if you lose the headphones you lose the noise canceling capabilities. And like another reviewer stated these headphones will not work with any other mp3 player; this player will also not work with audible files, subscription music services, or netlibrary files, you pretty much either have to use your own music or buy music from Sony's Connect music store.
- Lack of accessories

All in all, I'm am more than pleased with my purchase and if you don't let the Sonic Stage software scare you away then you are in for a real treat, as this player boasts excellent sound quality, innovative noise canceling function, and a very eyecatching modern design. The pros definitely outweigh the cons. If you're looking for something different and eye catching than I suggest you give this player a go..

Sony's active noise-canceling technology reduces ambient noise. View larger. The NW-S703F boasts 1 GB of built-in flash memory, enough for up to 685 of your favorite tracks. Listeners who already have extensive music libraries can use the included software and hardware to play back their collection of MP3s, while newer listeners will find plenty to like in Sony's ATRAC format, which provides higher sound quality while taking up less space on the flash memory. In addition, the NW-S703F supports the playback of WMA and AAC (non-DRM) audio files, a great feature if you have a large catalog of audio on your PC that was ripped from personal CDs. And as with all Sony MP3 players, the device is compatible with Sony's Connect Music store--one of the largest online music sellers.
Navigation is straightforward thanks to the player's Jog Shuttle dial, which lets you easily scroll through tracks or playlists, and the rotating, three-line, color OEL display, which not only accommodates both right- and left-handed users, but also offers information about the music, settings, and even time and date in any lighting condition. The built-in FM tuner, meanwhile, delivers accurate, drift-free tuning of all your favorite FM stations, with 30 station presets making it a breeze to quickly switch from one favorite to another. And when it comes time to transfer data from your PC to the NW-S703F, simply connect the unit via the USB 2.0 interface (cable included).
The NW-S703F comes with a copy of Sony's SonicStage music management software, which lets listeners manage their music, create playlists, burn CDs, import digital files, and easily transfer songs from one location to another. It's also a breeze to customize the sound, with a five-band equalizer that includes heavy, pop, jazz, custom, and manual modes. Additional features include Virtual Phone Technology (VPT), which converts the played music with a 3D sound processor to reproduce the acoustic effect of a studio, live house, club, or arena; direct encoding, which lets you record an analog audio signal directly from an audio player without using a PC; support for CD text and ID3 tagging; an internal lithium-ion battery that provides up to 50 hours of continuous playback; and a quick battery charge function that provides up to three hours of playback with a three-minute charge.
The NW-S703F, which measures 3.43 by 1.07 by 0.58 inches (W x H x D), is backed by a 90-day warranty on labor and a one-year warranty on parts.

Behringer HPX2000 Headphones High-Definition DJ Headphones Review

Behringer HPX2000 Headphones High-Definition DJ Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Behringer HPX2000 is a quality product and is a steal at the offered price. It is a well constructed, comfortable, and high performance sound reproduction instrument with excellent frequency range. I bought this product based on my knowledge of the Behringer microphone line but with some reservation of its earphone line given the low prices. However, after receiving the HPX2000 headset, I've used it on everything from portable CD players, my home entertainment center, my polyphonic synthesizer, and single side band radio transmission equipment and I've found the sound reproduction to be as good or better than prior Sony studio headphones that I've owned in the past. Given the durable construction, these headphones should last for years. And, I find the one-quarter inch plug and 2 meter cord length to definite pluses both in terms of the larger diameter, sturdier cable used and not finding myself running over and damaging the cable with the wheels of my chair. Don't hesitate to buy this product. You won't do better at multiples of this price.
