I found the noise reduction feature pretty useless. It might be useful if you are working in a very noisy area. But for me, it merely changes the background hum of the air conditioning and refrigerator into a hiss that is about the same volume. So for me these headphones did not really reduce background noise. It seems that if you want headphones that can really cut out the background noise, you would have to pay more than $20.
